A Little From Its Heart
Look closely at a ladybug and you might notice something.
They're not all exactly alike.
Their spots can differ.
The number.
The size.
The placement.
Little variations carried right there on their backs.
And yet...
every one of them is still unmistakably a ladybug.
None seems particularly concerned about whether its spots look like everyone else's.
It doesn't hide the one that's a little larger.
It doesn't wonder whether another ladybug has prettier markings.
It doesn't spend its afternoon wishing it had been given someone else's spots.
It simply opens its wings...
and goes about being a ladybug.
Maybe there is something we can learn from that.
Because people have different spots, too.
Some of ours can be seen.
The color of our skin.
The shape of our bodies.
The way we move through the world.
Others are harder to see.
The way our minds work.
The things that are difficult for us.
The experiences we've lived through.
The pieces of ourselves we're still learning to understand.
Those differences are real.
Some are beautiful.
Some are difficult.
Some become pieces of ourselves we wouldn't trade for anything.
And some may be things we wish were easier.
But none of them changes one very important truth:
Different does not mean less.
You do not have to look like everyone else.
Learn like everyone else.
Move like everyone else.
Think like everyone else.
Or experience the world exactly as someone else does to deserve the same kindness, dignity, respect, and love.
Your differences are part of your story.
They are not a measurement of your worth.
So perhaps when you notice this little ladybug resting among the beads, you'll remember:
You were never supposed to spend your life comparing your spots.
You were supposed to live it.
To stretch your wings.
To take up your little piece of the world.
And to offer the same grace to all the other wonderfully different people you meet along the way.
Because beneath all those different spots...
every one of us is simply trying to find a place where we are allowed to be exactly who we are.
And there should always be room for that.
Your spots make you different.
They never make you less. 🐞❤️
